the darlo bar – dalmation street art
what to say? more darlo street art, this time on the skinny wall of the darlo bar in darlinghurst.
drop in sometime, it’s a great little local watering hole.

found on jubilee lane, summer hill (duhh) – i really like this street art – random, in an odd spot, seemingly without reason – and on a bloody good east end london brick wall. just down a bit from laughing outlaw records.
i like.

some stencils, a few spray cans and a street – street art.
found in a tiny back lane in surry hills.

a really pretty piece- sort of reminds me of where the wild things are.

i first came across this little fella about a month ago in st peters – right next door to tortuga studios.
since then, i have seen this guy pop up in newtown and now in leichardt.
gets around this little monster does -a good thing i think – i reckon he is pretty cool.
i love the weird chook too.

seriously… there seems to be some cock fascination going on here in sydney of late.
yes, we have always competed with san fancisco in being the gayest city in the world, but it can not explain the sudden emergence of cocks popping up on walls all about town.
also, why are they ALWAYS circumcised dicks? easier to draw/spray? probably.
maybe i should start a politcal movement for uncircumicised men who are not represented in popular media.
maybe i can make it as important as the boat-people issue
dickman – you have got to love him. 4 dicks sprouting out of one head. what a dickhead.

how good is this for an idea – in rando of all places! nice to see street art creeping into some unsuspecting neighbourhoods.
a whole wall paying homage to crazy bollywood films. i love the green lady with the blood and eyes rolling back in her head.
let’s just hope that more dull walls in the city and suburbs get some kind of makeover like this.
here is a little bollywood magic for your enjoyment (x 2):
this next one comes from a crucial period in bollywood history. i reckon this film was one which really sat on the fence between indian and western music/dance styles.
it had a huge budget and was shot in some pretty awesome locations around the world, but when indians start to rap and try to be western gangsta homies, it just bombs and is embarrassing to watch.
perhaps bollywood should stick to what it knows – and what no one else in the world can do – singing and dancing extravaganzas – indian style.

i remember when i was living in this very neighbourhood back in the mid 1990′s and there was quite a bit of this roy lichtenstein pop art inspired style of street art about. i had pretty much forgotten about it until i came across this one today.
i just wonder if it is the same person refreshing their old art, or if someone new has taken the baton.
great to see some refreshed and vibrant colours back on the wall again.

i really like this little piece of wall.
it is tucked in a laneway by a pretty uininspiring cafe off glenhuntly road in elwood.
there is nothing in this photo that i don’t like.
play,play,play!

i think this is an absolute cracker and i think that it was posted on an excellent wall.
why it was posted so high and not on street-level, i will never know.
i’d like to see it all the way down on the ground, but hey, that’s just me, i’m not into this levitation thing.
whoever put this one up, thanks. i really like it and am sure that others who see it on this blog will like it too. keep up the top-shelf work!

there is so much good stuff on the back lanes throughout this city. i would just love to see every back lane wall covered in art.
Edited: May 25th, 2011
it’s funny, you know.
i have walked past this for years now and even though i am doing this blog, i have never thought to shoot it. i don’t know why..
it is a cracker of a little piece. stating the obvious, but in case you can’t tell, this is a security door by the side of a terrace house in fitzroy st, surry hills – opposite the cricketer’s arms. there is a door behind the security gate and this is painted on the door.
it’s awesome. a little disturbing maybe – and perhaps that’s why i never shot it.

a nice little piece on kim jong ill.
apparently he is not actually a nutter, he is really quite sane. he is just an egotist and nihalist.
to see what is going on over in north korea, a great resource is dailynk.com – it really gives an insight into what is happening over there. i read it weekly. kim jong ill is a criminal and causes the daily suffering of 24 million koreans.
these people live in such a twisted form of reality. the chinese and south koreans fear that when (not if) the regime collapes, they will be flooded with 24 million under-educated zombies with huge drug problems (yes, they may not have food, but they have plenty of ice).
the sooner the US, UN and EU stop playing games with this monster and cut him off totally from foreign aid and food aid, the sooner this regime will collapse. yes it will be a big problem for south korea and china in the short-term, but it will also be a better long-term solution and expediate the raising of standard and quality of life for all those poor bastards who are trapped in the north.
now, for some light entertainment (from the film ‘team america’):

I don’t know who did this one, I didn’t see a tag or signature – maybe i didn’t look hard enough.
i love it, it’s a gem. if anyone knows who put this up, pls let me know i’d like to credit it.
this one can be found right behind pablos’ vice cafe.
go check it out.

i came across this one in a strange little back alley behind the amex building on oxford street (opposite hyde park).
Edited: April 24th, 2011
The other day when i was here, this wall was covered in crappy tags. cityrail ‘workers’ painted over them with their favourite shasde of brown.
i give the space less than a week before it needs to be painted over again.
i have a great idea. how about places like this are opened up as ‘public walls’ – where someone who is actually good at pieces (as opposed to just tags), has a place to spend time to do a proper piece without fear of being arrested?
it would save the govt a bundle of money nin not having to slop their ugly brown paint all over trhe place and it would also make the city a lot more colourful.
who can i speak to to make this into a movement? we need it.

plastic drinks cups stuck into a wire cyclone fence on south dowling street. “et phone up” am pretty sure this is no longer paddington, but is it darlinghurst, or is it surry hills here?
i really love this kind of street art and it reminds me a lot of pixel art.
i’m in a bit of bother however. as much as i am glad the council workers don’t ‘destroy the art’, my concern is that all of this plastic ends up being washed down the drains and into the sea at some point in time – and that is a concern.
certainly you have all by now heard of the pacific ocean garbage patch. click the link if you havn’t. it’s well worth a read.
so then…. garbage or art?
here is a link to more plastic cup art on this site.

this is an oldie, but a goodie.
i hope this one stays on the wall for years to come – a great example of clever tongue in cheek creativity. this piece rocks in my opioion.
i’d love to meet whoever did this and i hope you are still at work!
awesome. thanks!

this one has been around for a long time, but i haven’t had the chance to snap it until today.
what happened phil? i don’t get the ply stuck onto the painting, was that you or was someone offended by what is underneath it>? shame i didn’t get the chance to shoot it before it got trashed.
Edited: November 9th, 2010

just a twisted little hello kitty monster on a pole. all good.
Edited: May 9th, 2010

a pretty busy wall this one. the pc is made out of concrete and it can be assumed that it’s the work of the same person who did this and this and this.
Edited: April 23rd, 2010

such a lovely autumn afternoon. nice colours – camperdown park.
Edited: April 15th, 2010

what a work of art, social commentary and deep insight. shame it wasn’t nominated for the archibalds this year. I just wonder, who’s mum is it supposed to be? she has nice abs though and is a good christian, just don’t let her put you off jesus. shame about the clubfoot.
good to see there’s a thriving arts community in the western suburbs.

i love these things on oxford st, i still haven’t heard back about who has been doing them. you can see the others i have found here and here.
i found a concrete computer too.
Edited: March 21st, 2010

more of the same from the same person who did this and this.
i also found a concrete computer.

Okay then, will the real Phil James please stand up, please stand up?
For those of you who are regulars here, you would have already seen this post. Here is another piece found in Paddington.
Whoever this guy is, he really likes to see a mashed-up Princess Diana as you can see here, posted by a Kate Bedwell (nice name BTW, do you?).
Dumbo Feather has also mentioned him here, as has Darlinghurst Nights.
Someone called Reemski has posted this on her Flickr account as well.
I really hope this is not some clever viral marketing campaign that has us hoodwinked and that rather, it is a homegrown Banksy-type thing.
If it IS a marketing thing, I vow to take down all posts regarding this and replace them with something else i shot that day. You know I DO take more than one photo a day.
If anyone finds more of this guys work, please put your links into my comments.
PS. – Haberdashery – what an excellent word.

I have noticed over the past few weeks these things appearing on Oxford Street.
Someone has made these pre-fabs (out of concrete?). There are TV and video remote controls, as well as one Nokia phone. Seems that they have poured the concrete into the mould, buttons and all and have scratched messages into them. The detail is amazing. They have been stuck onto brick walls with liquid nails or something.
One of them, a TV remote, is enscribed with the word “Isolation”. I like it. Here is another.
i also found a concrete computer.
I would love to know if anyone else here has seen these things and if anyone knows who is doing it?
My message to the perp is this – “Thank You!” – I hope the Saturday shoppers get your message.

Is it art, or advertising? hmmm. Looks like someone ripped another one off, just to the left of this one.
