a strange morning at manly beach

19.01.12 a strange morning at manly beach

ok, first up, my apologies for putting up such a crappy shot.

i was busy and had no time to set it up or think about it. it happens when you are doing a daily photo blog and work at the same time.

there were some fun little waves on the go at about 8.30 am, but come 10am, it all seemed to drop off pretty rapidly.

what a bizarre day. with those angry looking black clouds, i thought it would piss down with rain. not a drop.

anyway, i hope i find something more interesting to shoot for you guys tomoz.

if you want to see some nice daily manly beach photos, check out sprout daily. they have it going on.

humidity, haze and temperatre made me feel as if i was in hong kong or something.

great southern land – cronulla

15.01.12 great southern land cronulla

after the storms. what was australia like in the 1980′s? what was it like when life was simpler and hairdos were particularly bad?

it was like icehouse. perhaps it is good we have moved on…

perhaps not.

a classic australian summer scene

03.01.12 a classic australian summer scene

don’t you just love the australian christmas and new year period? i do.

sun, bbqs, prawns and heaps of swimming at the beach. though snow is pretty frigging awesome, i just love that we have our xmas and new years like this, rather than freezing in the cold like the rest of the world at this time (sorry to my northern hemisphere readers – take a little sunshine home from here!).

this kid couldn’t be stopped – he was just jumping off bundeena wharf all afternoon. noice.

hazardous marine creatures have been found in this area

07.09.09 hazardous marine creatures have been found in this area

this is the pool where i learned how to swim, mahon pool. i spend almost every day after school down here and loved exploring the inter-tidal reef – which was teeming with marine life.

i brought my 2 year old daughter down here to show her what i grew up with, with the hope that she will develop an understanding and respect of the sea and the life it supports.

i was shocked to find that pretty much all of the cunjevoi has been cut away – it is pretty much extinct. most of the small rockpools were also quite devoid of life as well.

the are far fewer shellfish and sea-urchins as well.

it is a really sad state when people pick these rockpools bare of life – so that they can either eat the sea-snails, cunji and urchins, or when fishermen cut up the cunji to use as bait.

i now have to try to find other places where i may be able to teach my child about life in the sea – it seems that soon, the only place i will be able to do that may be at the aquarium.

shame on all of you who rape the coast and the sea – i am sure that hazardous marine life has not been found around here for many years – judging by the lack of non-hazardous marine life that i saw.

yet another day with no surf – at all

4.8.09 yet another day with no surf at all

if you need to be rescued today, then you really should not be near the beach at all – in fact, you should probably not be allowed to sit in the  bathtub without responsible adult supervision.

where have all the waves gone? seems the ocean off sydney has decided to become a great big, still lake.
