olympia milk bar stanmore

09.05.11 olympia milk bar stanmore

whaooh!!

what to make of this place…?

imagine a milk bar from the 1950′s stopped in time. they have run out of anything to sell and there are just two flouorescent lights on the glow. it’s post-apocalyptic stuff.

aside from the noise of the passing traffic outside, the place is silent.

no music, no nothing.

behind the counter is a greek guy in his late 70′s. he doesn’t want to chat. nothing.

the shelves are with dusty empty boxes that once housed confectionary.

his shop sells nothing, as far as i can tell, apart from a flavoured milkshake for $2.70.

you have to drink it there because he only sells it in those 1950′s aluminium milkshake holders.

this place is a trip.

drop in for a milkshake.

where are they now? nikki webster

17.05.11 where are they now? nikki webster

oh nikki webster.

easy pickings i know, but some child stars really elicit an urge within me to punch them in the back of the head. the olsen twins, the fat kid from hey dad, justin bieber and yes, nikki webster.

she was just such a dick.

i suppose it would be really really quite hard to deal with that kind of attention at such a young age. there is probably also some kind of messed-up psychology going on there in which they will do anything to achieve fame.

“i’ll keep the money, you can have the fame’ as debbie harry once sang.

check out the apalling love affair nikki webster had with lad mags photoshoots. frightening stuff.

seems nikki webster has found her place and opened a humble dance studio on parramatta road. good luck to her, i kind of feel for her really.

more:

how shit is that.

the footbridge theatre

13.05.11 the footbridge theatre

try getting a photo of anything on parramatta road without getting a car in frame.

i did. am i proud of myself, yep, i sure am.

what are we looking at here? internationlist style architecture with some whacky bronze sculpture thingy on the front. a fascinator for a building perhaps, actually no, it’s more of a brooch.

this is another one of those things in sydney that i really hope stays the way that it is. please don’t update it.

the orange order in australia

25.05.10 the orange order in australia

that’s the original shot of the orange order on parramatta road.

the orange institution, unionism, and northern ireland are all closely linked.

i’m not down on their politics, but it’s a shame they can’t gt with the programme and at least give their doss a lick of paint.

Here is that the same place, the way it  would have looked like, 30 years ago – with a little help from photoshop -  (moss, algae and all):

25.05.10.21 the orange order in australia

it’s a bit sad to let an institution/sect/brotherhood fade like that. looks like the orange institution is fading like the paint on their walls.

butt ugly blokes building handsome furniture for beautiful people

01.05.10 butt ugly blokes building handsome furniture for beautiful people

this definitely caught my eye today.

nice way to advertise your business and yourself, wonder how that would go down on an internet dating site? rather well would be my guess!

i love a bit of self-depricating humour – very aussie.

i haven’t yet been to their showroom but it’s now on my to-do list because:

1) i want to see exactly how butt ugly these blokes are and;

2) i want to see what their ‘handsome’ furniture looks like.

i promise that when i finally get around to it, i will get a picture of these blokes to share with you lot. you can all judge how ugly they are. cool, we can run a poll – a 1st for photo a day!

another 2wistd evening in parramatta rd traffic

04.04.10 another 2wistd evening in parramatta rd traffic

that’s what this guys numberplate reads. i wonder why he is 2wistd? maybe he spent more on his audio system than what the car is worth? that would be pretty 2wistd. just another 2wistd evening on parramatta road. wonder if he had a 2wistd nite wit da 2wistd laydeez? what would a 2wistd guy look for in a 2wistd LAYdee i wonder? she’d have to be pretty fucking 2wistd herself to keep up with 2wistd himself, it would be pretty hard to keep up with someone so 2wistd.  stop me, i’m feeling a little bit too 2wistd.

UPDATE!!! 17.10.2010

i’ve just found out that 2wstd is totally famous! check out better pics of his chariot here! and if you want it, it can be yours for a cool $19k. check out the specs and the deets here.

the most out-dated shop in the world?

14.8.09 the most out dated shop in the world?

i think, and i do say “think” that “croissant Show” was a franchise back in the 80′s. I remember seeing heaps of them around when i was a kid, but have totally forgotten about it until i saw this fine example when, once again, i was stuck in Sydney traffic.

I wonder if the guy in the shop is actually a customer, or one of the owners friends?

In Australia, the format of telephone numbers was changed at least ten years ago. any Sydney number has a 9 as a prefix since then. these guys have had over 10 YEARS to sort that out on their signage!

i certainly will not be in a rush to buy any croissants from this show, that’s for sure.

edit****22.NOV.2010

NDT left a comment on this post today and rates their croissants highly.

I will get down there soon and check it out – i am happpy to be wrong…. will update again when that happens.
