after the rain

16.11.10 after the rain

more feet on the street – this time after a nice summer rain. i love it when it pours and then the sun comes out and steam rises off the street and all is dry again within an hour. my favourite weather.

i just bloody hate ‘crocs‘, i don’t care how comfortable they are – they were invented as a ‘spa shoe in a clog design’ [warning bells anyone?] and were launched at a boat show. need i say more? all they lack is that dangly tassle thing you find on your everyday boat-shoe. sorry to all the croc-wearers out there, but i’m only telling you because either your friends are wearing them too, or they don’t want to hurt your feelings.

bogan street

24.05.10 bogan street

this is kind of an in-joke for aussies.

for those of you who don’t know the definition of bogan, here it is – “a term used for a lower class white Australian, similar in meaning to the US term trailer trash”.

i know of another bogan street in sydney, it’s in wahroonga, on the leafy, pretty, sensible and somewhat aloof north shore.

it seems that the sensitive and delicate petals that are the north shore set can’t seem to handle the name of the street that they bought into anymore. seems they also take themselves a little bit too seriously to be a part of the self-deprecating culture of humour that makes so many australians amiable and approachable. (“what will my friends and the ladies who lunch say! the ladies at bridge club don’t take me seriously anymore. we won’t even get a lowly  eastern european au paire with an address like that. darling, let’s lobby council to change the name of our street”).

check out the fight to rename bogan street,  wahroonga here.

though wahroonga doesn’t really float my boat, there is some architectural history that does set me a-sail. harry seidler built a house for his mum here which has become quite famous – Rose Seidler House. It’s part of the Historic Houses Trust and is a real asset to the neighnbourhood and architecture as a whole. worth a look.

i wonder what the options for renaming bogan street will be – vuitton close, dior crescent, nob drive? time will tell.

here is a pic of the boys who live on bogan street and here is a definition of a bogan. enjoy.

i’m HOT – so go stick it where it hurts!

22.09.09 im HOT so go stick it where it hurts!

there are some days that i walk down the street and think -’hey, i really LOVE living where i live’.  for me, today was one of those days. apart from the usual market day, today was a little bit special around here. as part of the fashion week hooplas, there was a street closure and mini-festival on William Street to promote local business.

may i introduce to you,  ‘Lady Elektra’… click here for a baby photo of her.

but i must tread carefully, with arms and shoulders like that, i’m sure she may well punch the crap out of me.
